A major change to the plot of the story is how Beowulf is actually a real person. He just looks like a monster compared to the other men because of how tall he was. In the book it was said he was the devils slave and seeing him as a human was really different. He also had a son which seemed very strange. Changing these parts really made it weird and adding the love story with that girl and Grendel seemed even more strange. The director of the movie made it very different and I didn't really like what he did with the movie.
An effective change in the movie is how Grendel has a son and he wasn't really a devil's slave or a monster that they described in the poem. He was a regular man who just looked like a troll and had an affair with that one lady. It was like Grendel had a love story and Beowulf ended it by killing him. Another effective change is how Beowulf doesn't really fight for himself and to get fame. He did it for the people of the town and didn't really seem like he wanted all that fame.
Some religious conflicts that came in the movie that was not in the poem was the Christian Monk that told the people to just pray to God and Grendel wouldn't hurt them. He was also able to baptize all of the warriors that was at the city. This was the religion that was most affected in the movie.
