"Catcher in the Rye" Book Review

It was a regular day in English class. Essays due, lectures given, objectives on the board. On this particular day though there was something different on that board. It said that we were going to be given a book called the "Catcher in the Rye". I've heard about it before from the Senior boys last year and was told that it was a pretty interesting book. I thought it was going to be a good book as well, but the only part that was confusing to me was the cover of the book. I didn't get how the title and the picture compared to each other.

The book was interesting to me in the beginning because it started off with Holden being at a football game. Holden already seemed like the type of person who never wanted to be around anyone because while all of the students were cheering on the football team on one side of the bleachers, he was on the other side. After hearing about how he dropped out of 4 different schools it made me wonder what made him so unsuccessful. When hearing about the childhood he went through I then understood why he was having a problem.

Personally I didn't really like the book. Towards the middle and end of the book all Holden really does is tell how phony the people were. It was kind of getting on my nerves. I think my older cousin would like this book because he Holden acts the same way. My cousin doesn't really like to do the family activities we have. It seems like he just likes to be on his own sometimes and that's why i think he would like this book.
